Teaching School

Prestolee is a National Teaching School. A teaching school is an outstanding school designated by the Department of Education (DfE) charged with leading what is known as the school led system.

In 2010 the Government published a white paper which argued that schools themselves should begin to lead the education system of this country.  As part of that there would be less government interference and greater autonomy for schools.  In order to support this some schools would be designated National Teaching Schools.  These schools would have to have a proven track record of excellence in their own schools and excellence in supporting others schools.

National Teaching Schools are charged with:

  • Training New Teachers
  • Support school improvement
  • Developing research that helps grow the profession
  • Developing new and middle leaders to help support the next generation of leaders
  • Provide high quality continuous professional development
  • Support networks of schools and access government funding on behalf of the system

We work with a range of partner schools across Greater Manchester in our Teaching School Alliance.
