Safeguarding
At Prestolee Multi Academy Trust, safeguarding and the welfare of children are at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to creating safe, supportive learning environments where every child can thrive. All staff, leaders, trustees, governors and volunteers share a responsibility to act with vigilance, integrity and professionalism in all our dealings with children.
Our Core Principles
-
The welfare of children is paramount.
-
Children and young people have a right to a safe learning environment.
-
All children and young people have a right to freedom from abuse.
-
Children and young people should be treated with respect and dignity, as should the adults who work with them.
-
It is the responsibility of all adults to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people.
-
All children and young people must have the opportunity to express their views about decisions taken in relation to their lives.
How We Operate Across the Trust
-
Each school has a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), supported by senior leaders and the Trust’s safeguarding team.
-
We provide regular training, policy review, and safeguarding audits to maintain consistent, rigorous practice across all schools.
-
We ensure pre-employment and regular checks (e.g. DBS, references, identity verification) are in place for all staff and anyone working with children.
-
We collaborate closely with local authorities, agencies and partners to respond to concerns and protect vulnerable children.
-
All schools are expected to adhere to Trust safeguarding policies and statutory guidance, and to participate in safeguarding reviews and monitoring.
Responsibilities and Expectations
-
School leaders and staff must be familiar with relevant legislation and statutory guidance.
-
All adults working within Trust schools must undergo appropriate safeguarding checks and complete relevant safeguarding training.
-
Schools must provide clear induction for new staff and volunteers on safeguarding procedures.
-
Adults in the school environment must promote equality, inclusion and diversity, and avoid discrimination in all safeguarding practices.
